Summer Tanager
Piranga rubra

The adult Summer Tanager lives in open deciduous woods, pine-oak forests, woodland edges, and riparian groves across the Americas. It forages by sallying from perches and gleaning leaves, eating beetles, bees, wasps, and seasonal fruits. Adults are agile flyers with a clear, robin-like song, but their calls are not a separate battle-defining trait. A notable feeding trick is beating bees or wasps against a branch and wiping off the stinger before swallowing them.
