Yellow Dung Fly
Scathophaga stercoraria

The adult is a golden-yellow fly commonly seen around fresh dung in cattle pastures, where males perch and wait for females. It flies quickly between dung pats and nearby vegetation, feeding on nectar and also catching small insects. Males use their legs to grapple with rivals and to hold mates on crowded dung pats. This species is well known in biology as a model for studying mating competition and sexual selection.
