Question Mark
Polygonia interrogationis

The adult butterfly inhabits open woods, forest edges, parks, and streamside clearings, often perching on tree trunks or leaves. It flies in quick, darting bursts and often rests with wings closed, showing a bark-like underside that blends into its surroundings. Adults feed on tree sap, rotting fruit, dung, carrion, and sometimes flower nectar. Its common name comes from the small silvery mark on the underside of the hindwing that resembles a question mark.
