Common Kingsnake
Lampropeltis getula

Adult common kingsnakes inhabit a broad range of southeastern and central North American habitats, including forests, grasslands, swamps, field edges, and rocky or sandy areas. They hunt mammals, birds, eggs, lizards, turtles, and other snakes, killing many prey items by constriction rather than venom. Adults are mostly secretive and often active in warm daylight or at dusk, using cover and sudden lunges to ambush prey. They are famous for eating venomous snakes such as copperheads and rattlesnakes, aided by strong constricting ability and venom resistance.
