Dark-legged Grass Spider
Agelenopsis naevia

The dark-legged grass spider is a funnel-weaving spider of grassy fields, shrubs, gardens, and low vegetation in North America. It builds a flat sheet web with a tunnel retreat, then rushes out when vibrations signal a passing insect. Its diet is mainly small flies, leafhoppers, moths, and other arthropods subdued with venomous fangs. Unlike orb-weavers, its web is not sticky; speed and vibration-sensing make the trap effective.
