Little House Fly
Fannia canicularis

The little house fly is a small gray fly often found around homes, livestock buildings, compost, manure, and other moist decaying organic matter. Adults feed on liquids such as nectar, dung fluids, and dissolved organic material using sponging mouthparts rather than biting. They are agile fliers, with males often making persistent looping hover-flights in rooms, sheds, and shaded outdoor spaces. A notable trait is their association with decomposing waste, where the larvae help break down organic material.
