Hermes Satyr
Hermeuptychia hermes

This small satyr butterfly inhabits warm grassy edges, woodland openings, and shaded low vegetation. Adults fly close to the ground in a quick, uneven path and feed on flower nectar, moisture, and other liquid nutrients. When resting with wings closed, the muted underside helps it disappear against dry leaves and stems. Its eye-spots can draw a predator’s strike away from the body, giving it a chance to escape.
