Atlantic Sea Nettle
Chrysaora quinquecirrha

Atlantic sea nettles live in brackish coastal bays, estuaries, and nearshore waters along the western Atlantic, often drifting with tides and currents. They feed on zooplankton, comb jellies, small fish, and other soft-bodied prey captured by long tentacles armed with stinging cells. Their pulsing bell provides limited swimming control, but most hunting happens by passive contact as prey blunders into the tentacle curtain. Blooms can become dense in warm, nutrient-rich waters, sometimes strongly affecting local plankton and fish larvae communities.
