Deceptive Snout
Hypena deceptalis
The adult is a small nocturnal moth found around woodland edges, rough grassland, gardens, and hedgerows. It rests by day with muted, leaf-like wings held roofwise, then flies at dusk and night to seek nectar, sap, or fermenting fruit. Its long projecting palps give the “snout” appearance shared by many Hypena moths. The cryptic wing pattern makes it easy to overlook when it settles among dead leaves or bark.
