Metric Paper Wasp
Polistes metricus

Metric Paper Wasps live in open woodlands, fields, gardens, and around buildings, where they build exposed paper nests from chewed plant fibers. Adults hunt caterpillars and other soft-bodied insects to feed larvae, while they themselves drink nectar and sugary liquids. A single wasp can deliver a painful venomous sting when threatened, especially near the nest. This species is named for the ruler-like dark markings often visible on its reddish-brown body.
