Muscovy Duck Duckling
Cairina moschata (duckling)

A downy juvenile found along wooded ponds, marsh edges, and farm wetlands, staying close to cover and water. It paddles well soon after hatching and picks at small insects, seeds, tender plants, and bits of aquatic life. When threatened it crouches, hurries to water, or gives soft calls while relying on vegetation and nearby adults for protection. Notable fact: small claws and strong feet help it scramble over muddy banks and low branches.
