Common False Widow
Steatoda bipunctata

The common false widow is a small cobweb spider often found in houses, sheds, stone walls, and dry sheltered corners across much of Europe. It builds an untidy tangle web and waits nearby for small flies, beetles, and other invertebrates to become trapped. Like other spiders, it subdues prey with a venomous bite, though bites to people are uncommon and usually mild. Its glossy dark abdomen often shows two pale spots or a pale central mark, which helps distinguish it from similar house spiders.
