Lime Hawk-Moth
Mimas tiliae

An adult moth of deciduous woodland, orchards, parks, and gardens, especially where lime trees grow. It rests by day with mottled green and brown wings that resemble broken leaves or bark, then flies at dusk and night to find mates. Adults generally do not feed, living on energy stored from the caterpillar stage. Its scalloped wing edges and variable coloring make it unusually leaf-like among hawk-moths.
