Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake Juvenile
Crotalus adamanteus (juvenile)

Juvenile eastern diamondback rattlesnakes live in sandy pine flatwoods, scrub, palmetto thickets, and burrow edges across the southeastern United States. They hunt small lizards, frogs, and young rodents by waiting motionless and striking quickly when prey comes close. Young snakes already possess functional venom and a small tail button, though the rattle is not yet as loud or developed as an adult’s. Their bold diamond pattern helps them disappear among leaf litter and dry grasses.
