Common Marbled Carpet Larva
Dysstroma truncata (larva)

This caterpillar lives among low vegetation in woodland edges, hedgerows, heathland, and gardens where its food plants grow. It feeds by chewing leaves, often on plants such as bedstraws, willowherbs, heathers, and bilberries depending on local habitat. Like many geometrid larvae, it moves with a looping “inchworm” gait and relies heavily on twig-like stillness and camouflage. Its slender body shape helps it disappear along stems when resting.
