Turf Ant
Tetramorium caespitum

Turf Ants are small ground-nesting ants often found in lawns, field edges, pavements, and under stones. Workers forage for seeds, dead insects, honeydew, and small invertebrates, using trails between the nest and food sources. They defend themselves with mandibles and a small sting, and colonies can fight fiercely with neighboring ants. A notable fact is that this species complex has been widely spread by human-altered habitats across Europe and into other regions.
