Southern Unstriped Scorpion
Vaejovis carolinianus

The Southern Unstriped Scorpion is a small woodland scorpion of the southeastern United States, often found under logs, stones, bark, and leaf litter. It is nocturnal, waiting in sheltered places before ambushing insects, spiders, and other tiny invertebrates with its pincers and sting. When threatened, it raises its tail and defensive posture rather than relying on speed. Its sting is venomous but is generally considered medically mild for most healthy people, more like a painful bee sting than a dangerous envenomation.
