Iron Blue Dun
Baetis rhodani

The adult is a delicate upwinged mayfly found near streams and rivers after emerging from the aquatic nymph stage. It flies in brief, fluttering bursts and spends its short adult life focused on mating and laying eggs rather than feeding. Its diet effectively ends at adulthood because the adult mouthparts are reduced and nonfunctional. A notable feature is its short-lived winged phase, which can make it appear suddenly in large numbers along suitable waterways.
