Fisher
Pekania pennanti

Fishers are agile forest mustelids of mature coniferous and mixed woodlands across northern North America. Despite the name, they mainly hunt small mammals such as squirrels, snowshoe hares, mice, and porcupines, while also eating birds, carrion, fruits, and nuts. They climb well and move through dense cover with a long, low body and sharp claws, often relying on stealthy approaches and sudden lunges. A notable fact is that fishers are among the few predators able to regularly kill porcupines, using repeated attacks to the face before feeding from the unquilled underside.
