Northern Snakehead
Channa argus

Northern Snakeheads are large freshwater fish of slow rivers, ponds, marshes, and weedy shallows, native to eastern Asia and introduced in parts of North America. They are ambush predators, lunging from cover to eat fish, frogs, crustaceans, insects, and other small aquatic animals. Adults guard their young aggressively in floating schools near the surface. A specialized air-breathing organ lets them gulp air and survive for extended periods in damp conditions outside the water.
