Northern Pike
Esox lucius

Northern pike are long-bodied freshwater predators found in lakes, rivers, marshes, and weedy shallows across the Northern Hemisphere. They wait nearly motionless among aquatic plants, then burst forward to seize fish, frogs, small mammals, or waterbirds with rows of backward-pointing teeth. Their green, mottled pattern helps them disappear in vegetation and dappled water. A notable feature is their explosive ambush strike, which can cover a short distance extremely quickly.
