Pool Frog
Pelophylax lessonae

An adult of sunny, fish-free or low-fish ponds, marshy edges, and slow wetlands with floating and emergent plants. It hunts insects, spiders, worms, and other small invertebrates from the water’s edge, leaping or snapping from cover when prey comes close. When threatened it dives into the pond and hides among vegetation or mud. Males make bright, carrying calls during the breeding season, forming part of the classic summer soundscape of healthy wetlands.
