Hide Beetle
Dermestes maculatus
The adult is a small dark beetle found around dried carrion, hides, bone-cleaning colonies, and places where animal remains are left exposed. It feeds on dry animal material and lays eggs near a food source so the larvae can begin chewing soon after hatching. Unlike the larva, the adult has hardened wing covers and can fly to locate new carcasses or hides.
