Large Tolype Moth
Tolype velleda
The adult is a nocturnal moth found around woodland edges, orchards, and suburban areas where its host trees grow. It flies at night, rests camouflaged against bark or leaves by day, and is often drawn to artificial lights. Adults focus on mating and egg-laying rather than leaf-feeding like the larva. Its broad gray wings and furry body give it a soft, lichen-like appearance that helps it disappear on tree trunks.
