Blacktip reef shark
Carcharhinus melanopterus

Blacktip reef sharks live in shallow tropical reef flats, lagoons, and sandy channels, often patrolling water only a few meters deep. They are active predators that feed on small reef fish, rays, crustaceans, and cephalopods, usually using quick turns and sudden rushes to seize prey. Despite their bold hunting style, they are generally wary of larger animals and may perform an exaggerated threat display when stressed. The black markings on their fin tips are especially visible in clear reef water and help distinguish them from many other reef sharks.
