Meerkat Pup
Suricata suricatta (pup)

A Meerkat Pup spends its earliest weeks sheltered in a dry underground burrow in southern African scrub and desert edges. It is dependent on milk at first, then begins tasting insects and small pieces of prey brought back by adults. The pup practices digging, nipping, and squeaking while learning to follow movement at the burrow entrance. Its dark eye patches are already visible, a feature that later helps reduce glare in bright open country.
