Guanaco
Lama guanicoe
The adult guanaco ranges across dry grasslands, deserts, and foothills of southern South America. It browses and grazes on tough grasses, shrubs, lichens, and cacti, conserving water efficiently in arid country. Adults rely on keen eyesight, speed, alarm calls, kicks, and foul spitting displays to deter rivals and predators. One notable fact is that guanacos can run about 55–60 km/h over rough terrain.
