Oriental weatherfish
Misgurnus anguillicaudatus

Oriental weatherfish are bottom-dwelling freshwater loaches found in ponds, rice paddies, ditches, and slow streams with soft muddy beds. They feed on insect larvae, worms, small crustaceans, detritus, and other tiny bottom organisms by probing sediment with their sensitive barbels. When water becomes low or oxygen-poor, they can gulp air and survive buried in mud for a time. Their common name comes from their tendency to become more active before changes in barometric pressure.
