Anvil Sea Hare
Dolabella auricularia

The anvil sea hare is a large marine sea slug found in warm Indo-Pacific shallows, especially seagrass beds, reef flats, and sandy lagoons. It grazes on algae with a rasping radula and often relies on mottled coloring to disappear among weed, rubble, and sediment. When disturbed, it can release purple ink and other unpleasant chemical secretions that confuse or deter predators. Despite its slug-like softness, it has a small internal shell and a tough, leathery body rather than an exposed protective shell.
