Blobfish
Psychrolutes marcidus

A deep-sea sculpin found off Australia and Tasmania, living on soft bottoms at depths where pressure is many times greater than at the surface. It is a slow, gelatinous fish that conserves energy by hovering just above the seafloor rather than chasing prey. Its diet likely includes small crustaceans, mollusks, and other benthic invertebrates taken when they come within reach. The famous sagging appearance is mostly a result of decompression after being brought to the surface; alive at depth, its body is better supported by surrounding water pressure.
