Maned Wolf Pup
Chrysocyon brachyurus (pup)
Maned wolf pups are born in secluded dens among the grasses and scrub of South American savannas and wetlands. They have darker coats than adults and stay close to cover while they grow, first nursing and later taking regurgitated food, small prey, insects, and fruit from their parents. Their oversized ears and lengthening legs develop early, but young pups are still cautious and dependent. A notable feature is the gradual change from dark pup fur to the reddish coat of the adult.
