African elephant Calf
Loxodonta africana (calf)

African elephant calves are born into savannas, open woodland, and riverine scrub where they stay close to their mothers for protection. They drink milk for their first years while gradually learning to browse on grasses, leaves, bark, fruit, and roots. Young calves use short trunk pushes, squeals, and ear-spreading displays, but they rely more on size and family protection than true fighting strength. A newborn calf is already heavier than many adult antelope and must learn fine trunk control over many months.
