Maple Spanworm
Ennomos magnaria

The adult moth is found in deciduous woods and nearby edges, flying mostly at night during the warmer months. It rests by day with leaf-colored, scalloped wings held flat against bark or foliage. Its adult life is focused on dispersal and mating, with little feeding compared with the leaf-eating caterpillar stage. The uneven wing edges and autumnal colors help it resemble a dead leaf when still.
