Bactrian Camel Calf
Camelus bactrianus (calf)

Bactrian camel calves are born in the cold deserts and dry steppes of Central Asia, usually staying close to their mother for warmth and protection. They feed on milk at first, then begin nibbling tough grasses, shrubs, and salty desert plants as they grow. Calves can stand and walk within hours of birth, an important survival trait in open habitats with harsh weather. Their small humps are soft and not yet filled with the large fat stores seen in adults.
