Assassin Bug
Zelus renardii
The adult assassin bug is a slender predatory true bug found on vegetation in gardens, fields, and dry scrub where other insects gather. It waits or prowls among stems and leaves, then stabs prey with a strong piercing beak and drains it after digestive saliva takes effect. Adults can fly to new hunting sites but usually capture prey at close range on plants. One notable fact is that this species is often beneficial in gardens because it preys on many herbivorous insects.
