Indian Rhinoceros
Rhinoceros unicornis
The adult Indian rhinoceros lives in riverine grasslands, marshes, and alluvial plains of northern India and Nepal. It is mostly solitary, grazing on tall grasses and also feeding on reeds, leaves, fruit, and aquatic plants. Its single black horn is used in threats and close combat, while its heavy skin folds give it an armor-plated appearance. Regular wallowing helps cool the body and protects the skin from insects and sun.
