Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp
Lysmata amboinensis

The adult lives on tropical Indo-Pacific coral reefs, often maintaining a cleaning station in a cave mouth or coral overhang. It waves long white antennae to attract fish, then removes ectoparasites, dead skin, and mucus with careful claw work. Adults also scavenge small meaty scraps and retreat quickly into crevices when threatened. This species is a protandric simultaneous hermaphrodite, with paired adults capable of exchanging sperm and brooding eggs after molting.
