Uhler's Stink Bug
Chlorochroa uhleri
The adult is a shield-shaped stink bug of western North America, often found on shrubs, grasses, crop edges, and other seed-bearing plants. It feeds with piercing-sucking mouthparts, taking fluids from plant tissues and developing seeds rather than hunting prey. Adults can fly between host plants but usually depend on camouflage, a tough exoskeleton, and chemical defense when threatened. Its notable stink comes from specialized glands that release pungent, irritating compounds to deter predators.
