Jewel Spider
Gasteracantha fornicata

The adult jewel spider builds orb webs in gardens, forest edges, and shrubby clearings where flying insects pass through. It waits on the web or nearby silk lines, then rushes in to bite and wrap trapped prey. Its broad, hard, jewel-like abdomen bears conspicuous spines, a notable defense that makes it difficult for small predators to swallow.
