Indian Palm Squirrel
Funambulus palmarum

Adult Indian palm squirrels are agile, diurnal rodents common around trees, gardens, farms, temples, and buildings across southern India and Sri Lanka. They feed on seeds, fruits, nuts, buds, flowers, and occasional insects, using sharp incisors to gnaw hard foods. They race along branches, walls, and wires, often flicking the tail and giving sharp calls when alarmed. A notable feature is the three pale back stripes, which make the squirrel easy to recognize as it darts through urban and wooded habitats.
