Bronze corydoras
Corydoras aeneus
The adult Bronze corydoras is a small armored catfish of slow rivers, floodplain waters, and vegetated freshwater pools. It forages along the bottom with sensitive barbels, taking small worms, insect larvae, crustaceans, and edible detritus. Its overlapping bony plates and sharp fin spines help protect it from predators. A notable adaptation is its ability to gulp air at the surface and absorb oxygen through the intestine when water is low in oxygen.
