Paragus Hoverfly
Paragus haemorrhous
The adult is a tiny hoverfly found in sunny grassland, field edges, gardens, and other flower-rich places. It feeds mainly on nectar and pollen, using fast hovering flight to move between small blossoms and avoid danger. Adults are agile rather than forceful, often darting away from threats or holding position in the air. A notable fact is that the harmless adult benefits from a wasp-like look while its larval stage is a predator of aphids.
