Mexican Orangeknee
Brachypelma smithi

An adult Mexican Orangeknee is a heavy-bodied tarantula of dry forests and scrublands along Mexico's Pacific coast, often resting near a burrow by day. It is a sit-and-wait predator that seizes insects and small vertebrates with its fangs, then uses venom to subdue them. When threatened, it may rear up or kick irritating hairs from its abdomen, and females are notably long-lived in captivity and the wild.
