Goliath Birdeater Tarantula
Theraphosa blondi

The adult lives in wet lowland rainforests of northern South America, sheltering in deep burrows during the day. It is a nocturnal ambush predator that mainly eats large insects and other invertebrates, but can overpower small frogs, lizards, or rodents. When threatened, it may rear up, stridulate with a rasping hiss, or kick urticating hairs from the abdomen. It is one of the heaviest spiders in the world, though birds are only occasional prey despite the common name.
