Field Wolf Spider
Hogna lenta

The adult Field Wolf Spider prowls fields, lawns, woodland edges, and dry open ground, usually hunting from the surface at night. It eats insects and other small arthropods, relying on speed, close-range pounces, and venomous fangs instead of a prey-catching web. During the day it often shelters under debris, in vegetation, or in shallow retreats. A notable lycosid trait is the female carrying her egg sac attached to the spinnerets and later carrying spiderlings on her abdomen.
