Russian Wild Horse Foal
Equus ferus (foal)
A Russian wild horse foal stays close to its mare on open steppe and grassy scrub, where visibility helps the band spot danger. It nurses heavily at first but soon nibbles tender grasses and herbs as its gut develops. Foals can stand and move within hours of birth, an important defense for a prey animal in wide, exposed country. Playful running and small kicks help build the balance and leg strength needed for adult survival.
