Lynx Spider
Oxyopes salticus

The adult Lynx Spider is a small, active hunter of fields, gardens, weedy edges, and agricultural habitats across much of North America. It does not use a capture web, instead stalking insects on leaves and pouncing with quick reflexes before subduing prey with venom. Flies, plant bugs, leafhoppers, and other small arthropods make up much of its diet, making it a useful predator in crop systems. Females are notable for guarding egg sacs and young spiderlings, a level of parental care uncommon in many small spiders.
