Eastern Field Wireworm
Limonius agonus

The adult is a small click beetle found in open fields, grasslands, and weedy margins, often hiding by day under litter or low vegetation. It feeds lightly on plant material such as pollen, nectar, or tender vegetation, while most of the species’ feeding impact happened earlier as a larva. Its hard-bodied shape and quick reflexes help it escape predators on the ground. Its most notable trait is the clicking mechanism on the underside of the thorax, which can snap the body into the air and flip it upright if it is overturned.
