Mediterranean Recluse
Loxosceles rufescens

The adult Mediterranean recluse favors warm, dry places such as stone walls, leaf litter, sheds, cellars, and quiet indoor crevices. It is nocturnal and reclusive, leaving an irregular retreat of silk to hunt insects and other small arthropods. Rather than chase openly, it uses quick movements, concealment, and a venomous bite at close range. A notable feature is its six eyes arranged in three pairs, unlike many spiders that have eight eyes.
