Sydney funnelweb spider
Atrax robustus

Adults live in humid, sheltered places around the Sydney region, with females usually remaining in deep silk-lined burrows while mature males wander after rain in search of mates. They prey on insects, other spiders, and occasional small vertebrates that pass near the burrow entrance. A notable fact is that their defensive bite can be medically serious to humans, especially from males, and modern antivenom has made fatalities extremely rare.
